A student who is graduating is advised to file an application for graduation at the Registrar's Office during the 1st week of classes. Likewise, each candidate for graduation should file an exit form at the Office of the Guidance Director. An exit interview is set by the Guidance Director.
A degree or certificate is awarded to any applicant for graduation provided, he/she has established residency at Saint Columban College for at least one (1) curriculum year and completed the requirements of the course in which he/she is enrolled.
1. Academic and Non - Academic Awards
A Committee on Awards composed of the College Deans, the School Registrar, Director of Student Affairs, Guidance Director, and the Vice President for Academic Affairs shall determine deserving academic and non - academic awardees.
2. Academic Award
a. A candidate for graduation honors should have:
- completed a minimum of 75% of the required subjects of the course in SCC;
- NO dropped or withdrawn subjects in SCC or in other school/s;
- A minimum of 21 units per semester or as prescribed in the curriculum except for the last term;
- marriage solemnized in the church, if married; and
- a morally upright life.
b. The appropriate graduation honors and the prescribed minimum final rating in any subject and/or in any school for the entire duration of the program or course shall be:
Latin Honors Minimum GPA requirement
Summa Cum Laude 1.25 with no grade in any one subject below 2.0
Magna Cum Laude 1.5 with no grade in any one subject below 2.0
Cum Laude 1.75 with no grade in any one subject below 2.0
A student is disqualified for Latin Honors if:
- He/she finished her course for more than the prescribed number of years.
c. The school recognizes graduating students who excel in their major field with a Certificate of Proficiency in _________________(Area of Specialization,) provided, he/she obtained a grade point average of 1.5 and above, and no grade below 2.0 in their major subjects.
d. Non-graduating students shall be awarded a Certificate of Recognition every semester, provided, he/she has
- NO dropped or withdrawn subject/s;
- an average grade point of at least 1.5 and no grade below 2.0 in any of the subjects taken during the preceding semester; and
- a minimum load of 21 units per semester.
3. Non-Academic Award
Awards other than academic may be given to a graduating student who has shown consistent exemplary performance during his/her stay in the college.
- Loyalty award. Loyalty medals are awarded to students who continuously studied in SCC as specified below:
- Platinum Loyalty award - for graduates who continuously studied from elementary to graduate school;
- Goldent Loyalty award - for graduates who continuously studied from elementary to college;
- Silver Loyalty award - for graduates who continuously studied from elementary to high school: for graduates from high school to college.
- Leadership Awards. For outstanding achievements in extra - curricular and co-curricular activities, graduating students are awarded leadership medals. A committee composed of academic and non-academic club advisers, headed by the Director of Student Affairs, recommends to the Awards Committee students who are to be awarded leadership medals.
