College Mentors attend 3-day Outcome-Based Assessment Training Workshop

Saint Columban College took a significant step towards enhancing the quality of education by conducting a 3-day Outcome-Based Assessment Training Workshop on August 14-16, 2023, at the Instructional Media Center. This innovative approach marked a pivotal shift from traditional evaluation methods, focusing on holistic student development and real-world application of knowledge. Dr. Jerome A. Ouano, an expert on the OBA, was the resource speaker. Dr. Ouano is an alumnus of Saint Columban and a former faculty member of the College of Arts and Sciences, now part of the faculty at La Salle, Manila.

Dr. Ouano emphasized that the OBA framework sets clear and measurable learning objectives for each course, ensuring transparency and alignment between curriculum, teaching methods, and assessments. Assessments should mirror real-world scenarios, encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. Students are better equipped to tackle challenges beyond the classroom by empowering life-long learning in the classroom.

Although the teachers are not zero on outcome-based assessment, the training helped participants to refocus the assessment preparation that reflects its commitment to providing a modern, relevant, and impactful education.
